Year-End Crunch Time: Focus on What Actually Closes in 2026

The year is almost over, and every salesperson feels it. The question now isn’t “How do I work harder?” It’s “Where should I spend my time?”

Some deals will close in 2026. Others will close in 2027, and some never will. Your job is to tell the difference fast, then put your energy where it counts.

1. Tighten Your Planning and Time Management

Take 30 minutes to audit last week. How many hours went to deals that can realistically close this year? Block your calendar for calls, follow-ups, and proposals on your best opportunities, and batch the admin so it doesn’t eat your prime selling time.

2. Ask Better Questions to Spot Real Prospects

A prospect has a real problem, the budget and authority to fix it, and a reason to act soon. A suspect is pleasant to talk to and never moves forward. Try asking:

  • “What happens if this isn’t solved by year-end?”

  • “Who else is involved in this decision?”

  • “Is budget already approved?”

A “not until next year” is valuable information, because it tells you where not to spend your time.

3. Sort Your Pipeline Into Three Buckets

Open your CRM and be honest:

  • Closing in 2026: Clear need, budget, and a next step on the calendar. These get most of your attention.

  • Possible in 2026: Something’s missing, like an approval or a decision-maker. Find out what and close the gap.

  • 2027 and beyond: No urgency or budget. Move these to a lighter nurture rhythm.

A smaller, healthier pipeline beats a bloated one every time.

Finish strong by focusing on what can close now, nurturing what belongs to 2027, and letting go of what’s not real. Now go open that CRM.
